Picky eating in kids can cross a line into an unhealthy fear of food.

A new study by Duke researchers reveals more children experience those fears than their parents realize.

91% of kids in the study report at least one food-related fear.

But only 26% of parents recognized those fears.

This research, published this month in the International Journal of Eating Disorders, is giving us a better understanding of an eating disorder known as Avoidant Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

Learn more about ARFID and the resources at Duke Health to help parents and children by visiting the Duke Center for Eating Disorders website.
