DURHAM, N.C. -- After months of negotiations, Duke Health and UnitedHealthcare have reached a new multi-year agreement that will maintain the in-network status of 172,000 Duke Health patients.
In addition to preserving access for patients covered under United’s commercial and Medicare Advantage plans, the new contract expands in-network access to patients insured under United’s Medicaid plan.
“This new contract preserves and expands our patients’ access to the Duke Health care teams they know and trust, and appropriately reimburses us for the expert, complex care only we can provide,” said Thomas Owens, M.D., executive vice president and chief operating officer of Duke University Health System.
“We appreciate United’s attention to complete this contract so we can focus on the people and families we both serve,” Owens said.
This new contract reflects the invaluable role Duke Health plays as a partner and as a care provider in the region and ensures the health system remains an in-network destination for hope, health and healing for patients with UnitedHealthcare insurance.
