Since 2006, Duke has gained a reputation as an international leader in global health research and education. Under the leadership of the Duke Global Health Institute, faculty and students are working to reduce health inequities in our local communities and around the world.

Duke Global Health Institute

The Duke Global Health Institute, established in 2006, brings knowledge from every corner of Duke University to bear on the most important global health issues of our time. The Duke Global Health Institute was established as a university-wide institute to coordinate, support and implement Duke’s interdisciplinary research, education and service activities related to global health. The Duke Global Health Institute is committed to developing and employing new models of education and research that engage global partners and find innovative solutions to global health challenges.

Duke-NUS Medical School

In 2005, Duke and the National University of Singapore signed an agreement to partner in establishing a new medical school in Singapore. The school's curriculum is patterned after that of the Duke University School of Medicine. The school is part of the National University of Singapore system, but unique in that it is overseen by a Governing Board, including a Duke representative who has veto power over any academic decision made by the Board. The establishment of a graduate medical school will increase the supply of doctors practicing in Singapore, give the country the flexibility to produce more physicians to meet future needs and train doctors who are exposed to clinically-related research, thus increasing the nation's capacity to develop a vibrant biomedical hub.
