DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke University Hospital reports that Jesica Santillan, 17, was out of surgery at 10:15 a.m. (EST) following successful heart-lung transplantation.

Santillan soon will be moved to the pediatric intensive care unit at Duke University Hospital. She remains in critical condition, which is standard for post-transplant patients.

The transplant procedure began at about 6 a.m. and progressed as expected.

An update briefing will be held by Duke officials at 1:30 p.m. today in Room H131 in Hanes House at Duke University Medical Center (corner of Erwin Road and Trent Drive).
