Duke Liver Center Triathlon Needs Volunteers

DURHAM, N.C. -- The Duke Liver Center Half Ironman Triathlon has plenty of athletes to compete, but not a lot of folks to help the 400 competitors find the finish line of the Oct. 1 event at Jordan Lake.

Among other jobs, volunteers are needed as parking attendants, clean-up crews and course helpers to guide the triathletes through the 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike race and 13-mile half-marathon. The time commitment for each job is flexible. All volunteers receive an official T-shirt.

The proceeds of the event benefit the Duke Liver Center, which is helping lead efforts to understand liver disease and to develop new treatments to save lives through research, patient care and education.

For information on watching the event or to volunteer contact Sherry Wilkins at (919) 286-3712.
