Duke Honors Distinguished Professors

DURHAM, N.C. – Duke University has awarded distinguished
professorships to 25 faculty members, including 10 from the
School of Medicine. The professors were recognized at a dinner
April 29 at the Washington Duke Inn and Golf Club with other
university distinguished professors – current and emeritus --
in attendance.
The School of Medicine recipients of chairs were as follows
(all effective July 1, 2004):
Francis Ali-Osman, M.D. -- Margaret Harris and David
Silverman Professor of
Neuro-Oncology Research.
Haywood L. Brown, M.D. -- Roy T. Parker Professor of
Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Joseph B. Heitman, M.D. -- James B. Duke Professor of
Molecular Genetics and
Microbiology.
Herbert Kim Lyerly, M.D. -- George Barth Geller Professor
for Research in
Cancer.
Mark F. Newman, M.D. -- Merel H. Harmel Professor of
Anesthesiology.
James A. Nunley, M.D. -- J. Leonard Goldner Professor of
Orthopaedic Surgery.
Edward F. Patz, M.D. -- James and Alice Chen Professor of
Radiology.
Jonathan S. Stamler, M.D. -- George Barth Geller Professor
