DURHAM, N.C. – Duke Health has appointed Jason Carter as president and chief operating officer for Duke Regional Hospital, effective immediately.
Carter will lead the overall management and operational performance of the 388-bed hospital, working closely with Duke University Health System leaders to advance strategic initiatives, strengthen team engagement, and elevate patient care across the community.
“Stepping into this role permanently is both a humbling and inspiring moment for me,” Carter said. “Every day, I’m reminded of the strength, heart, and resilience of our Duke Regional Hospital teams, and I’m energized by the opportunity to shape our future together. As we enter a new chapter together, my vision is to build on what we’ve achieved and stay rooted in the values that define us: collaboration, innovation, and unwavering service to our community.”
Carter brings 20 years of health care leadership experience to the role. He joined Duke Health in November 2023 as chief operating officer for Duke Regional Hospital and has served as interim president and COO for the past six months. During that time, he earned wide respect for his steady leadership, people-centered focus, and deep operational insight.
“Jason’s leadership has already made a meaningful impact at Duke Regional,” said Greg Pauly, group president of Duke University Health System. “His ability to engage teams, drive performance, and stay focused on what matters most – our patients and community - will serve the hospital well as we look ahead.”
