DURHAM, N.C. -- The Raleigh Jaycees will hold their second annual "Bid For Bachelors" auction to raise funds for expanding the Outpatient Treatment Room in Duke's Morris Cancer Clinics. The auction and a dance will be held Saturday, Aug. 26,starting at 6:00 p.m., at the Marriott Crabtree Valley in Raleigh.

Following introductions and hors d'oeuvres, bidding on the approximately 20 eligible males of various backgrounds will begin at 8 p.m. Entrance for the event costs $25, and all proceeds will benefit the Duke Comprehensive Cancer Center. Ticket orders must be received by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug.

There will also be a silent auction of memorabilia autographed by Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski, a print by Bob Timberlake and other items. In 1999, almost $10,000 was raised through the Bid for Bachelors alone.

The North Carolina Jaycees have been supporters of Duke's cancer center over the years. In fact, the present treatment room, which opened in 1996, is the product of a three-year Jaycee fund-raising effort that began with a $200,000 gift in 1993. The treatment area was designed for about 60 patients per day, but sees up to 128 patients per day.
