Duke Regional Hospital Awarded Five Stars by CMS
DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke Regional Hospital has achieved five stars, the highest rating, through the Overall Hospital Star Ratings program by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
Duke Regional is the only hospital in the Triangle and one of only seven hospitals in North Carolina to achieve this five-star rating. Additionally, CMS awarded four stars to Duke University Hospital and Duke Raleigh Hospital.
“I’m incredibly proud of our hospital’s achievement,” said Katie Galbraith, president of Duke Regional Hospital. “These five stars are a direct reflection of the way our team delivers safe, compassionate and quality care every day to our patients, their loved ones and the community.”
CMS created the Overall Hospital Star Ratings program to help patients and their loved ones compare hospitals. The ratings system takes into account up to 60 of the more than 100 measures reported on Hospital Compare, a quality-of-care database that includes more than 4,000 Medicare-certified hospitals.
The system uses hospital data to measure mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care, and efficient use of medical imaging.
